You can even adjust your heightmap in 3D mode as you walk around. It allows you to fly around in 3D mode, or walk on your ground to see what a human might see. One of the most useful and satisfying plugins is called Sapphire.
PRICE FOR L3DT PRO SOFTWARE
The software has a plugin architecture (called Extensions) as well as scripts (even a Python example). As you paint, you can alter values applied to your terrain such as water depth, erosion impact, mountainous or desert features (relative or absolute heights), climate information and more. But that brush is loaded with information. In another of the several generation modes, you start out by painting a rough topographical view with a brush onto a pre-specified plot of space (say, 1600 x 1600). and that's if you just want to zip through by taking the very reasonable defaults. Then you can set some values like the flood water plane (if you bother calculating water tables at all), choose your climate (I like arctic), set your anti-aliasing and position of the sun, and decide if you're going to need to run in mosaic mode. The queue allows you to specify the maps you want to generate: Heightfield, water map, attributes, terrain normals, light map and texture map. The application takes you through a wizard which allows you to configure the size of your map (say, 1024 x 1024) and build your calculation queue. The visual tour highlights the main features and is worth a glance, but I'll go over a few key features here.
PRICE FOR L3DT PRO GENERATOR
Bryce has all sorts of great terrain gen features.īut what if you need a truly huge chunk of highly configurable terrain scattered with mountains, lakes, deserts and jungle, wrought with erosion from the weather and the sun, and you need it in a hurry? That's where Large 3D Terrain generator (or 元DT, from Bundysoft) shines! This is one truly cool application which even runs on Linux - and if you buy the Pro version for $40 (Indie) or $150 (commercial), you get full multi-core support too. Somewhere in the mid-range is Bryce, a nice $99.00 package from Daz3d. There's your super high-end like E-On Software's Vue Infinite, which runs about $900 but offers the most advanced sky, terrain and vegetation creation tools. There's the terrain heightmap which can be created in Gimp or Photoshop and then imported into your favorite modeling package, like Blender or 3D Studio Max. When it comes to terrain generation, there's all sorts of ways to accomplish creating the mesh and texture you're looking for.
